DESCRIPTION:\n \nThe Corporate Transparency Act (“CTA”) was recently enacted to combat money laundering, terrorist financing, tax fraud, and other financial crimes. The CTA went into effect on January 1, 2024, requiring many of us and our clients, in an effort to promote financial transparency, to report certain information regarding beneficial ownership of business entities to the Department of Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). FinCEN will then compile these reports into a national registry of business entities. The CTA's requirements have caused much confusion among attorneys, business owners, and financial professionals, and have even been struck down in at least one federal court.
